Woman charged in fatal car crash

Police have arrested a Manassas woman in connection with a crash that killed a 13-year-old on a bicycle last month.

Marilyn J. Freeman, 61, of King Arthurs Court in the Manassas area, was charged with reckless driving.

On July 29, at approximately 6:47 p.m., the police responded to Hoadly Road near Olivewood Drive in Manassas to investigate a fatal crash involving a bicyclist and a vehicle. Thirteen-year-old Prabhdeep Ranahawa of Dale City was riding his bicycle and crossing Hoadly Road when he was struck by a 2003 BMW. In spite of all first aid efforts rendered by fire and rescue personnel, the victim died at the scene.

The investigation led to further witness interviews, and forensic examination led to the charges being placed. Freeman was released on an unsecured bond and has a court date of Oct. 16, 2008.
